Reader Book 1 bridges the lessons between Book 1 & Book 2. It introduces staff notation with interesting & tuneful songs. Treble clef reading is introduced first, followed by bass clef reading, culminating in grand staff reading. Beginners in piano are often discouraged by traditional method books and teaching styles. That is because those methods put music reading ahead of playing the instrument. The revolutionary Klav-Ear Method teaches beginners to play the piano, including complicated rhythms, before insisting they read music notation. Importantly, from the very beginning the Klav-Ear Method builds a strong fundamental foundation by emphasizing the proper technique for playing the piano. Consider that children learn to speak fluently long before they learn the alphabet. The Klav-Ear Method recognizes that beginners of any age need to spend time exploring and playing the piano before being expected to read music notes. The Klav-Ear Method does this through a progressive and exciting learning process that keeps the students' interest instead of a boring traditional approach. Each book in the Klav-Ear for Kids series includes an orchestrated CD with two tracks for each song. The first track is a faster speed (tempo) the student achieves after practice. The second track is a slower version for the student to use during practice. Each piece begins with a recorded introduction the student counts along with before beginning to play. Playing the piano while listening to the CD helps establish and reinforce a solid rhythmic sense which is the most important aspect of music. Playing with the CD is just downright fun too. Children love these pieces and are captivated by the many colorful illustrations. The three-book Klav-Ear series is geared toward elementary-age children. Yet, parents or grandparents can just as easily learn to play the piano along with their young ones because the basics of music are clearly presented and the songs are musically engaging.
